Kvello’s exhibition Spindlehorn presents new wall works and sculptures combining welded steel with textiles, sailcloth, clothing and found woven materials. Kvello blurs the boundaries between painting and sculpture by reworking discarded textiles into painterly yet sculptural joints. He works within the terminology of the canvas: textiles, carpets and garments are torn, sewn and nailed together as painterly gestures. The works operate as sculptural collages that both flatten and suggest bodily contours. The title refers to an elusive animal and to spinning as a process, pointing to the poetic, category‑resistant nature of the work, where hard and soft materials, art and fashion, painting and textile art merge.
